The Emery County Business Chamber held a ribbon cutting for The Workout Place in Huntington on Jan. 19. The business is operated by Cheryl Cox. The business offers fitness classes including pump-weight training, Zumba and Turbokick. “We have Zumba on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 6 a.m. Monday and Wednesday nights at 6 p.m. is pump, a free weights class, and then at 7 p.m. is Turbokick. On Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7 p.m. is Zumba.
“We are looking to add more classes like yoga, if you are interested in yoga, please give me a call.
“The Turbokick class combines kick boxing and hip hop. It has some really fun music. My instructors are Melany Weaver that helps with the Turbokick and Kevin Wilson and Taylor Cox that help with the pump classes.
“Zumba is really fun. It’s like a workout party. You don’t even know you’re exercising and pretty soon you’re working up a sweat. It goes for one hour and combines Latin dances, hip hop, salsa, reggae, and many others, it’s a mixture of dances.
“I’ve been teaching cardio kick boxing for 10 years and Zumba for two years. Getting some exercise really helps you to feel better. Fitness should be a big part of everyone’s life. It will help you gain strength, stress relief, it will help you be better at everything you do. It will help you be a better mother, it releases stress fighting hormones. It’s really fun to get together as a group and exercise. We all work to help each other. A big group makes it fun. You will feel better about yourself if you exercise. It’s really for everyone no matter what your shape and size. I hear people say that they can’t come and exercise with us until they lose weight. But, working out really does help with weight control. We will start you out slow and get you going and moving. Even if you’ve never worked out, it’s not a problem. If you start working out and see some results, it’s a really big motivator to keep moving. You will see a difference in six weeks, but some people say they can see a difference even after one week. Everyone is different. We are here to have fun and to workout. Even after you lose weight you need to work on toning your body and that’s where the free weights come in to tone and sculpture.
“We also have some Saturday workouts. I will text and post what we are doing on our Facebook page, The Workout PLACE. One week we had a boot camp where we did Zumba for 30 minutes, then weights and then Turbokick. You could do all of them or just one or two.
“We are friendly to everyone and want you to give us a try. What happens at Zumba stays at Zumba you can really get into it and shake your booty and that’s great, it’s all for fun. It’s a learning environment and we work with everyone to learn the steps. Besides, that if you are working out and burning more calories you can eat the foods you want,” said Cox.
Melany Weaver is one of the instructors, “I help with the pump classes. We team teach Turbokick. Zumba is really my favorite, you get a workout without even knowing you’re working out. It really doesn’t feel like a workout. Turbokick is really fun. With the pump class you start with whatever feels comfortable for you. We work the arms, legs, abs, gluts and the entire body. You can start light and work up to heavier weights. Men are welcome to come and work out too.”
Cox said, “The first man that comes to our Zumba class and stays the entire class will get a year’s worth of free Zumba. We would like to get enough men that are interested and there is an instructor from Price that will come and teach classes for men.”
So the workout freaks at The Workout Place encourage everyone to come in and give it a try. It’s a good stress reliever, you will look and feel better, so what do you have to lose except maybe a few pounds. Make 2013 the year you will get in shape and be more healthy. Find your new fitness level at The Workout Place.
Cox said it’s $35 a month for everything and they have a Zumba punch card you can purchase if you only want to do the Zumba.
“We are always looking for ways to improve our business, we’ve added mirrors to the walls and we are going to paint and we’ve added a new sound system. Please call us with any questions.” You can reach Cheryl Cox at 749-0439 and Melany at 749-0975. The business is located in the old Huntington City office building by the town hall.
