Huntington City to address drainage problems

The Huntington City Council met on Oct. 21 for their monthly Council meeting with Mayor Hilary Gordon conducting the meeting.
The Council approved an Ordinance for control of backflow and cross connections dealing with potential problems in water connections which are not installed properly.
This ordinance clarifies Huntington’s position for the Castle Valley Special Service District.
The Council approved the ordinance dealing with new approaches being installed in the city where curb, gutter and sidewalk are currently installed.
The ordinance states that any work done on sidewalks, curb, gutters and approaches must be engineered by the city engineer and work must be performed by a city approved contractor.
The Council amended Ordinance 5-2015 to state more clearly that side and rear setbacks on accessory buildings is now two feet and this ordinance applies in all city residential zones.
The Council was presented a potential ordinance change for the cemetery which would deal with monuments and markers and who could perform such work and what could future monuments or markers be constructed of. The Council will revisit this issue in the next regularly scheduled meeting in November.
The City issued new business licenses to CNBouAmerica LLC, a distributor of solar power equipment throughout the country and JC Restorations, a body shop/paint shop working mostly on older muscle cars from the 60s and 70s.
Mayor Gordon reminded all of the fast-approaching City Christmas party that will be held on Dec. 3 at the city fire station. All are invited to come for soup and chili.
Turkey trot Thanksgiving morning at 8 a.m. with registration at 7 30 a.m. Cost $7.
Councilman Mark Justice commented that with all the rain the city has received lately it is quite evident where drainage problems occur and where the city and the special service district need to focus their attention. Two corners on Main street are the worst for having backed up water.
Three new councilmembers will join the council in January.
LaMar Guymon, Joe Ward and Leonard Norton received the most votes in the recent election.
