The Castle Dale City Council met in their regular January meeting. One of the first items on the agenda was City Recorder Lael White administering the Oath of Office to newly elected council members Jacob Barnett, Brad Giles, and Joel Dorsch. They were then seated on the council and went to work on the business of the city. Carl Jacobson owner of the Esquire Estates property has a potential buyer for part of his property and requested the City Council change his property zoning from residential mobile home to residential for the building of houses on the property. He also requested a change in the water connection designations from 8:1 to 2:1. Carl was told he would have to get the approval of the City Planning and Zoning and their recommendation to the council before any action could be taken.
Carol Peterson requested a credit for sewage fees paid over several years because her property is on a septic tank and not the city sewer. The home was not connected to the sewer when the sewer line was installed in that area.
The City Council agreed to give Carol Peterson a $650 dollar credit on her water and sewer bill. She agreed to get the funds necessary to make the connection to the city sewer system. Terry Fonville requested that a yield sign be installed on Bell Avenue with cross street Emery Avenue or 360 East and 300 North.
Carl Jacobson said that the city was competing with his business by allowing people to camp overnight in the city parks during the Pageant and at other times. No action was taken.
The Branding Committee reported there was a 80:20 percent split on the vote for changing the Castle Dale City brand of “Get Dirty With Us.” The majority of the council was against making any change at this time but the Branding Committee is open to suggestions.
The request for the city to sponsor a Roping event in the Castle Dale City Arena with Clayton Laws at a cost to the city of $1,500 dollars was turned over to the Economic Development Committee for a recommendation.
The agreement with the Castle valley Special Service District, the Water Conservancy Board and Castle Dale City for the new Castle Dale City building was approved as the money is now available to fund this project. Mayor Van Wagoner reported the city is testing new LED lights for illuminating the Castle Dale City Arena.
