The Utah 3-A football quarterfinals were held on Oct. 28 and the higher seed home team won each of the contests. Morgan 20 to 0 over Manti and Juan Diego 42-14 over Canyon View and Delta 19-18 over Grantsville
In the semi-finals Juab lost to Juan Diego 36-61 and Delta beat Morgan 21 to 14. Delta and Juan Diego will face off in the championship game at Southern Utah University on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Emery Spartans traveled to Nephi and faced the South region leader in the first round. Juab defeated Emery by the score of 35-14. Juab’s first score came off of a deflected Spartan pass that came to rest in a Juab defender’s arms and he scored to give the Wasps a 7-0 lead after the first quarter.
Juab added three scores in the second quarter to blow the game open. Emery came back in the fourth quarter and scored twice before time expired. Logan Cox scored Emery’s first score on a 1-yard run and Ethan Winter added the extra point. The big play in the scoring drive was an 18-yard pass completion from Zach Jorgensen to Kobe Faimalo.
On Juab’s next possession, Dalton McKee came up with an interception for the Spartans and Emery went about 80 yards for the score. The score came on a pass from Jorgensen to Koby Butler on a 2-yard pass. Butler is normally a tackle but on this play, he donned another jersey and caught his first pass of the season. Winter added the extra point.
Jorgensen attempted 24 passes and completed 8 of those for 99 yards and had a touchdown and two interceptions. Logan Cox ran the ball 14 times and gained 82 yards. Tel Gardner ran the ball 7 times and gained 42 yards while Faimalo ran the ball 8 times for 36 yards. Faimalo also caught 2 passes for 31 yards and Gardner caught 2 passes for 31 yards. Easton Gordon ran the ball 6 times for 33 yards and Kacey Jones once for 6 yards. Gordon also caught 2 passes and those passes covered 32 yards. Kolton Butler caught one pass for 3 yards.
Chase Jewkes had 9 tackles in the loss with Faimalo ending the game with 5 tackles. Kolton had 4 tackles and Kyler Wakefield, Drake Hoffman, Cox and Colten Willson all ending the game with 3 tackles each.
