At the March meeting of the Huntington City Council, Councilperson Laneea Cowley invited all to come out to the Annual Easter Egg hunt that will be held April 8 at 11 am at the Lions Park, the parks west of the library and Harts. Laneea also invited all to come and assist with the flower pot planting throughout the City on May 4 at 10 am. Please contact Cowley at the City Hall if you would like to volunteer.
Councilman Lamar Guymon announced that the Emery County spring bike festival has been relocated this year from Green River to Huntington. The ride will be held May 18-19-20 and those interested will assemble at the Huntington city park on each of those days.
Guymon also stated that construction on the new city park restroom is under way and should be completed in June. The structure will also house tourist information and each restroom will have four stalls.
Mike Justice came before the Council seeking permission to install a batting cage at the Little League field in Huntington. The City gave him permission to install the cage along the right field fence line.
Councilman Leonard Norton stated that a lot of dogs are running loose throughout the city and that dogs must be restrained at all times whether by fence or tied up. The City dog catcher has been busy picking up loose dogs.
Councilman Joe Ward stated that a new drain system is being installed at the Cemetery in hopes of keeping ground water away from the graves. They trenched to six feet deep to install piping.
Mayor Hilary Gordon stated that those city residents affected by the recent graffiti episode throughout the town will probably have to clean their property themselves since no assistance will be coming from those who actually did the deed.
In other business, the Council approved business licenses for four new businesses. RKidz LLC is a snowie/shaved ice venture, NR Peaks Guide and Outfitters is a hunting and guide service, Thin Line Coatings is a company that will coat firearms with cerakote and Truly Affordable Tree Care is a tree removal service.
The Council also approved a new ordinance limiting parking on Main Street between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to two hours at one time. This ordinance goes into effect immediately. Cars may be towed if found in violation.
The Council also approved the purchase of what is known as the McCallister property located between Main Street and 100 West and 300 South and 400 South.
This property will be cleaned up and will be available for future economic development in the City.
