Thomas Burr became interested in origami when he did a project in the eighth grade in geometry class. It was a 20 sided shape with points. They did the project as a way to learn about 3D shapes. The project sparked his interest and he began searching out books on origami and purchasing them. He taught himself from the books various types of projects. He began sharing his love of origami with others and he teaches workshops at local schools. His mother is a teacher at Ferron Elementary and he has been in her classroom many times teaching this art form. For this class at Castle Dale Library, Burr brought a variety of display items. He had printed directions for the children to follow and a wide assortment of colors of paper for the children to experiment with their projects. One of their projects was a Spanish Box. He showed the students the stellated octahedron which is a two dimensional shape having eight sides. Stellated refers to the fact that each face of the shape points outward instead of being flat, giving it a stellar or starlike appearance.
