One Emery County Deputy recently graduated from Peace Officers Standards Training. Matt Salas is now POST certified. Jeremy Lake graduated from the Corrections academy.
To become POST certified they must attend 15 weeks of training and pass tests on the subject matter as well as physical fitness tests.
The Peace Officer Standards Training is done in Salt Lake and the trainees stay at the facility there during their training.
Once the Emery County deputies are POST certified, they are eligible for a raise and can become a parole deputy.
Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk said he is pleased these two deputies have taken the opportunity to further their training.
“It’s a time when it’s not popular to be a police officer and it’s also a very dangerous line of work to be involved in and I applaud those who are willing to step up and serve their communities,” said Sheriff Funk.
Deputy Lake will be involved in the operation of the jail facility.
