Robert Litster
CASTLE DALE – Robert Lee Litster, a man of integrity, left this mortal life March 14, 2003 to join other family members in a joyous reunion.
Born to goodly parents, Leonard (Scotty) and Dagmar Olene Jensen Litster Jan 21, 1924. Married Ruth Emma Lamph in the Manti LDS Temple June 28, 1943.
He proudly served his country in WWII. Graduated from North Emery High School where he was active in sports, drama and music. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities throughout his life. He loved music, singing solos, doing duets with his wife or performing with the Huntington Glee Club which he thoroughly enjoyed. He served a LDS mission with his wife in the St. Louis Missouri Mission. He worked in the Manti LDS Temple for seven years. He was a hard worker and felt that when you do a job, you do it right. His sense of humor kept those around him entertained and they wondered what was coming next.
He is survived by wife, Ruth, Castle Dale; children, Emma Lee Larsen and Brenda Gay Leonard, both of Price; Norah Olene and William Charles Goff, Mesa, Ariz.; Robert Leon Litster, Tremonton; and 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. They also raised a nephew, Randy Lamph and seven foster children including Peggy Faye Parker and Troy Lynn Tucker. Also survived by sisters, Connie Sherman and Karen Jensen. Preceded in death by one great-grandchild; brother, Ken Litster; sister, Olene Johansen; and son-in-law, Paul Leonard.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 18, 11 a.m., in the Castle Dale LDS Stake Center. Friends may call Monday evening, 6 to 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial, Cleveland Cemetery.
Anna Chavez
CARBONVILLE – Our beloved daughter and mother, Anna Marie Chavez, age 29, left the warm embrace of her family and friends and joined her divine creator in a heavenly paradise on March 15, 2003.
Born Sept. 24, 1973 in Price to Danny L. Chavez and Esther Martinez. She married Jesus Rodriguez.
Anna’s greatest love in life was her two daughters and her family, and the time they spent together. She enjoyed reading, dancing and listening to music. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
She is survived by loving daughters, Chantelle and Briann Chavez, both of Carbonville; mother, Esther (Charlie) Sandoval, Price; father, Danny Chavez, Helper; brother, Larry Chavez, Price; sister, Crystal (Michael) Davis, Helper; brother, Bryan (Kristal) Sandoval, Price; sister, Kimberly (Brian) Wood, Price; brother, Paul Cata, Helper; grandparents, Andrea Martinez, Helper; Dolores (Virgil) Sandoval, Price; great-grandmother, Jessie Aguayo, Price; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceded in death by sister, Danielle; grandparents, Louis and Arlene Chavez and Josie Luevano.
Funeral Mass Thursday, March 20, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service Wednesday evening, 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Wednesday and Thursday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
J. Birchell Stewart
EAST CARBON – J. Birchell Stewart, age 72, passed away March 16, 2003 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Oct. 19, 1930 in Duchesne to Joshua “Buck” and Corilla “Peggy” Shaffer Stewart. Married Joan Louise Hixon April 29, 1955 in Ely, Nev.
He worked as a cartographer (map maker) and fire fighter for the U.S. Forest Service for 30 years, after which he was in consulting for 10 years. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his family whom he dearly loved. He served as a paratrooper during the Korean War. He began his service in the LDS Church at the age of 18 as a scout master.
He is survived by wife, Joan, East Carbon; children, Jayann and James Goodman, Stansbury Park; Jay and Ann Stewart, Salt Lake City; Jim and Lori Stewart, East Carbon; seven grandchildren and four great-granddaughters; and special niece, Peggy. Also survived by mother, Corilla “Peggy” Bybee and one sister, Marilyn Stone. Preceded in death by father.
Funeral service will be Thursday, March 20, 1 p.m., in the East Carbon LDS Chapel where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial, Sunnyside Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Henry Edmondson
“Poppa”
HELPER – Henry E. Edmondson, age 80, passed away March 12, 2003 at Parkdale Care Center.
Born July 5, 1922 in Herrin, Ill. to Lum and Mary Collier Edmondson. Married Wilma Donelson Nov. 3, 1940 in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Graduate of Harrisburg Township High School Class of 1940 in Harrisburg, Ill. Served U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in California, China and the South Pacific. Resident of Carbon County since 1970, where he owned and operated The Arrow Club with his wife for many years. He also drove bus for the Carbon School District and Notre Dame Regional School. Henry proudly served his flag and was a devoted member of the VFW Miner’s Post 2379 and the Price American Legion Post 3. He deeply loved his family and enjoyed cooking, baking and baseball. Henry will be dearly missed by his family and a community of friends.
Survived by loving wife, Wilma Edmondson, Helper; daughters, Deloris Markakis; Karla Edmondson; five grandchildren, Melissa (Casey) Hammack; Amy (Doug) Olson, all of Price; Matthew (Amy) Markakis, Grand Junction, Colo.; Kennedy Byrd, Carson Byrd, both of Price; great-granddaughter, Madison Long, Grand Junction, Colo. Also survived by brother Jerral (Thelma) Edmondson, Marion, Ill.; and sister Marie Harrison, Marion, Ill. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Estelle Edmondson, Aileen Furlow, Evelyn Lollar; infant son, Lester Edmondson; son-in-law, Alex Markakis.
Funeral service was held March 15, 2 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Friday evening, 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
Delise Rae Staley
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and angel Delise Rae Staley was surrounded by family she loved when she left this mortal life and returned to her heavenly home on March 11, 2003 in Emery, Utah. She was born Aug. 10, 1933 in Spring Canyon, Utah to LeGrand W. and Mary Jumper Henningson. She married Wayne Staley Dec. 16, 1950 in Emery and their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on Sept. 12, 1995. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings in the church. Her greatest love in her life was her home and family and the time they spent together.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years Wayne Staley of Emery. Also children Victor (Joyce) Staley of Orangeville, Sue (Kim) Jones of Orangeville, Ben Staley of Emery, Jeff (Leslie) Staley of Emery and Kathryn Staley of Emery. Also 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and brothers and sisters Neil (Maxine) Henningson of East Carbon, Dorothy Pulley of Emery, Jean Zwahlen of Murray, Hazel (Dick) Cox of Emery and FloAnn (Bevan) Wilson of Huntington. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson Jason.
Funeral services were held March 14, 2003 in Emery. Interment in the Emery City Cemetery was under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Thelma Hazel Green Cude
WELLINGTON – Loving wife, mother and devoted grandmother, Thelma Hazel Green Cude, age 70, passed away March 16, 2003 at her home.
Born Sept. 29, 1932 in Hamilton County, Fla., to Dewey Garland and Corrie Milton Green. Married her soul mate, Gene Harvey Cude Dec. 6, 1947 in Folkston, Ga. Marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Hazel was an active member of the LDS Church where she served in numerous callings. She was a former longtime resident of Melbourne, Fla. prior to moving to Wellington in 1999. Hazel dedicated her life to her family and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by loving husband, Gene H. Cude, Wellington; son, Allen D. (Ann) Cude, Salt Lake City; daughter, Terry L. (Terry) Jewkes, Wellington; daughter, Thelma J. (David) Carter, Panama City, Fla.; son, Dana L. Cude, Palm Bay, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Dane, Jarem, Gaylynn, Jennifer, Roy, Samuel, Justin; and three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Herman L. Green; and sister, Zedna Katherine Carroll.
Funeral service Thursday, March 20, 1 p.m., Wellington 4th LDS Ward. Family will be at the church Thursday one hour prior to service. Friends are welcome at Mitchell Funeral Home daily 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Interment, Wellington City Cemetery.
