Dance Fever: Emery Spardettes host region drill competition

The Emery High Spardettes perform their military drill at the region competition where they finish in second place and will advance to the state competition.

The Emery High Spardettes hosted the Region 8 Drill competition on Jan. 21 at 5 p.m. at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale. Teams from Carbon, Juan Diego, Delta and North Sanpete competed in three categories including military, dance and novelty.
In the dance category Delta was first and North Sanpete was second with Juan Diego in third. In the military category, Delta was first with Emery second and North Sanpete third. In the novelty Juan Diego was first with Delta second and Emery third.
Overall winners were Delta in first, Emery second and third to Juan Diego. Teams advancing to the state competition on Saturday at UVSC will be Delta, Juan Diego, North Sanpete and Emery.
Jasha Hinkins from Emery won the drill down competition. The all-region team members from Emery include Jasha Hinkins, Laurel Lemon and Kari Sharp. Jasha Hinkins from Emery was named as Academic All-region. All-state drill team nominees from Emery were Jasha Hinkins, Laurel Lemon and Kari Sharp.
Nadene Hinkins is the drill mistress for the Emery High Spardettes.
