Emery track participates in local meets

After having started the season the week before at a track meet in Price, the two Emery High track teams went on the road again last Saturday, this time to Salina to run against 18 other teams at North Sevier High School.
The Emery boys finished third out of those 19 teams behind Delta High with 116 points and Grand County High with 110 points. The Spartans scored 74 points as they had someone place in 11 different events.
The Lady Spartans scored just four points and finished 19th out of 21 high schools.
For the girls, Hailey Jo Allred finished sixth in the 200-meter race and Tiana Jensen finished eighth in the 300 meter hurdles.
For the guys, Emery had two second place finishes during the events of the day. Daryl Guymon finished second in the 300-meter hurdles and Ty Funk finished second in the 800-meter race. Guymon was also fifth in the 110-meter hurdles. Two sprinters for the boys scored the most points in the meet though as both Braiden Ivie and Logan Cox scored 14 points.
Ivie, just a freshman, finished third in both the 100-meters and the 200-meters and seventh in the 400-meters. Cox finished third in the 400-meters and fifth in both the 100-meters and the 200-meters.
Other Emery boys that placed in the meet were Ty Mecham in the shot put with a fourth place throw and Chase Jewkes with a third place throw in the javelin. In the distance races, sophomore Chase Christiansen finished fourth in the 1600 meters and third in the 3200 meters.
The 4X400 relay team of Funk, Christiansen, McKay Meccariello and Griffin Livingston finished seventh.
The two Emery High track teams traveled to Blanding to participate in the San Juan County Championship track meet on Wednesday and came home with 10 individual champions and three relay titles plus both teams won titles. The boys scored 131 points to Grand High’s 119. The girls scored 173.5 points to Grand High’s 85.5. The combined scores were Emery 304.5, Grand 204.5, San Juan 129, Monticello 88, Whitehorse High 20 and Lake Powell 1.
Braiden Ivie was the lone double winner for either team as he won both the 100-meter race and the 200-meter race. Logan Cox, after finishing second in both the other sprints, won the 400-meter race. Ty Mecham won the shot put and Chase Jewkes won the javelin.
The girls had six individual winners. Hailey Jo Allred won the 100-meter race, Jocee Funk won the 200 meters, Erin Hurst won the 800 meters and Belle Bowers won the 1600 meters. In field events, Tayden Nielsen won the high jump and Makieya Bertuzzi won the javelin.
In the relay races, the Emery girls won two of three and the Emery boys won one of three races. The teams finished second when they didn’t win. The girls team consisting of Bowers, Brinn Beckstead, Funk and Alejandra Garcia won the 4×400 race. The team of Funk, Shelbee Murdoch, Bertuzzi and Allred won the 4×100 relay. The boys team of Brady Boren, Ivie, Jake Jensen and Griffin Livingston won the sprint medley relay.
Finishing second were the boy’s 4×100 relay team of Boren, Lon Huntsman, Cox and Ivie. The 4×440 team of Chase Christiansen, Ty Funk, McKay Meccariello and Keldan Guymon also finished second. For the girls, the sprint medley relay team of Allred, Bertuzzi, Katelyn Hurst and Brooke Jensen also finished second.
Also placing for the girl’s team were Funk, Bertuzzi and Murdoch in the 100 meters as they went two, three and four. Jaylee Brinkerhoff, Murdoch, Laciejo Funk and Abby Snow went two, three, four and five in the 200-meter race. Allred, Erin Hurst, Murdoch, Brinkerhoff and Jewell Funk went two, three, four, five, six in the 400-meter race. Tiana Jensen finished second in the 100-meter hurdle race and the 300-meter hurdle race. Jensen, Nielsen, and Beckstead finished two, three and five in the 800-meter race. In the high jump, Jensen was third, Garcia was fourth and Chloe Sermon was fifth. Jaylee Brinkerhoff was sixth in the long jump. Emalee Bott, Elixis Dalton and Emelyn Oliverson finished second, third and fifth in the shot put. Bott and McKenzie Cox finished third and fourth in the discus. Sam Morgan and Feride Yeshpayeva were third and fourth in the javelin.
Also placing for the boy’s team were Brady Boren fifth in the 200 meters, Ty Funk, Keldan Guymon and Chase Christiansen fourth, fifth and sixth in the 400 meters. Daryl Guymon and Mason Faimalo were second and fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and were second and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles. In the 800-meter race, Funk was second and Christiansen, Meccariello and Keldan Guymon were fourth, fifth and sixth. Livingston finished fourth in the 1600 meters and Lance Chynoweth was sixth. Marquis Giroux, Drake Hoffman and Landon Fairbanks were fourth, fifth and sixth in the shot put and Jewkes and Giroux were third and fourth in the discus. Daryl Guymon and Cale Allred were fourth and fifth in the javelin.
