Camp Dale DUP
The opening social for the Camp Dale DUP will be held on Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. A luncheon will be served. You don’t need to be a member of the DUP in order to attend. Come and join us and have a good time.
Hearing Screening Testing
Emery School District will be screening the hearing ability of our students throughout the school year. This testing will be done for all students in preschool, kindergarten, first grade, special education and students referred by their teacher or parent. Any parents who do not want their child to be given a hearing screening test should call their school and tell the secretary.
Crop Disaster Program
If you experienced below normal production for your crops in 2003 or 2004 because of drought conditions, this program can help to reimburse your losses if they are in excess of 35 percent. You will need to provide production evidence and meet other eligibility requirements. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 9. For more information or to sign up call 435-381-2300.
Veterans, Widows and Dependents
A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. (VFW), Department Service Office in Salt Lake City, will be in our area to assist you in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits. This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the VFW to qualify for assistance. The VFW field service officer will be working out of the Price Workforce Service Center on Sept. 1 and Sept. 15 from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
Huntington DUP
Huntington Camp DUP will hold a meeting in the Huntington Senior Center on Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. Anyone who is interested is welcome to come.
Womens Volleyball

Livestock Assistance Program
If you suffered at least a 40 percent loss on your non-irrigated pasture land in 2003 because of drought, you may be eligible to receive a payment to reimburse you for your grazing losses. The payment is contingent on the number of eligible livestock and sufficient grazing to support those livestock. The sign up deadline is Sept. 9. For more information or to sign up call 435-381-2300.
Rocky Mountain School of Baseball
Rocky Mountain School of Baseball announces its annual Labor Day Tournament in Utah County on Sept. 2, 3, and 5. The tournament will include the following age divisions: 8u, 9u, 10u, 11u, 12u, 13u, 14u, 15/16u, and 17/18u. They are also having their 12th annual Fall Super League. The league will consist of six Saturday doubleheaders beginning on Sept.10-Oct. 15. The league will include teams from across the Wasatch Front and Idaho and will be divided into 3 geographical regions and the ages divisions are the same as listed above. Gary Gildner
Gary Gildner has won many awards for his novels, memoirs and poetry. Gildner will be visiting the College of Eastern Utah. He will have a poetry reading on Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center in the Alumni room. Refreshments will be served and also an opportunity to meet Gildner. He will also have a memoir writing workshop on Sept. 8 from 12-2 p.m. in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center in the Board room. The workshop is free and students and the public are welcome. Soccer Signups
Signups for soccer, for ages 4-18, will be held Aug. 30 from 4-6 p.m., in Castle Dale at Emery County Recreation building, in Orangeville at Cottonwood Elementary, in Huntington at Huntington Elementary, and in Cleveland at Cleveland Town Hall. Tip Line for Drug Violations
A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.
Emergency Preparedness and Health Fair
An Emergency Preparedness and Health Fair will be held Sept. 24 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation Building, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. There will be educational booths with information regarding food storage, emergency supplies, fire, HAZMAT, mental health, and many more subjects pertaining to health and emergency preparedness. There will also be entertainment provided, and concessions will be available.
AWANA Club
AWANA club for children age 3 through sixth grade will be held at Desert Edge Christian Chapel on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. The fun will begin on Sept. 7 with games, Bible lessons, treats and fun. The theme for this year is Red, White, and Blue, the Lord Loves You. For more information call 653-2361.
Ladies ATV Ride
On Sept. 7 during the Arapeen ATV Jamboree, a special ladies ride will be held. The ride will be the Black Dragon ride and is rated beginner. Lunch will be catered on the trail for a small fee. For more information contact Corey at 381-2431 or 749-6301.
ATV Rodeo
The FFA students at Emery High School are sponsoring an ATV rodeo to be held in conjunction with the Arapeen ATV Jamboree. The ATV rodeo will be held Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ferron rodeo grounds. Peach Days Soapbox Derby
The Peach Days soapbox derby will be held Sept. 10. There is no entrance fee, however, drivers must be at least 6 years of age and must have a signed permissions slip if they are under 18 in order to participate. Entry forms must be turned in to City Hall by 5 p.m. on Sept. 7. Entry forms and rules are available at City hall during regular business hours. Races will be divided into similar age groups with one race as an open class. Prizes will be awarded to the winning participants and to the cars with the most original design.
Food Handlers Classes
There will be food handlers classes for all persons working in restaurants, bars, nursing homes, school cafeterias, convenience stores or grocery deli’s. Classes will be taught in Price on Sept. 28 at 4 and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District Health Department, 28 South 100 East. Classes will also be taught in Castle Dale on Sept. 29 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Health Department, 25 West Main Street, Castle Dale. Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Archives is now under the supervision of the Emery County Recorder and a message may be left at that office at 381-2414.

CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Angels Have Wheels
All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare.
