Girls Basketball Camp


A girls basketball camp will be held at the Emery High School Spartan Center on June 1-3. Eighth through 12th grades will be from 9-11:30 a.m. Elementary through seventh grades will be from 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Castle Dale Library


All the action will begin June 1 at the Castle Dale Library. The theme for the summer programs at the libraries in Emery County is Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds. In keeping with that theme, the summer reading program will begin June 1 at 11 a.m. with dragons; June 8-unicorns; June 15-medieval life; June 22-knights; June 20-castles; July 6-royal read; June 13-magical mayhem; and the summer finale July 20-Hogwarts School. The reading club “Joust Read” will begin June 1, where readers can earn one Sickle (Hogwarts coin) to be used at the summer finale. A special young adult program, “Ye Knights of the Order of the Castle (Dale Library), for ages 8 and older, will be held twice monthly beginning on June 7 at 1 p.m.

Millsite Womens Golf


It’s not too late to join the Millsite Womens Golf Association. Play begins May 31, but women are welcome to join at any time. The format for play is team scramble, and those who wish to play individually are welcome also. Call the golf course, 384-2887 to register.

Green River Big Fix


On June 8 the Big Fix discount mobile spay/neuter clinic will be at the Green River Community Center, 165 South Broadway. To preregister call 564-8221. Space is limited, call early for instructions.

Green River Kid’s Cafe


The Green River Community Center announces the sponsorship of the summer food service program. Free meals will be available to attending children. Meals will be served at the Green River Community Center in the Kid’s Cafe Monday-Friday. Morning snack-8:45-9 a.m.; lunch-12-12:30 p.m. (both through the summer food program); and dinner (through the Utah Food Bank) from 4-4:30 p.m.

Amatuer Golf Tourney


The first annual Emery County Recreation/Millsite Men’s Association amatuer 4 man scramble will be held June 25. There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Register at Emery Recreation office at 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale, by June 23. Each team can only have one member with a handicap of 10 or less. Entry fee inlcudes green fees, cart, two par three contests, membership, lunch, drinks on the course, prizes, and a tee gift. Coloring Contest


The Utah Summer Games sponsors a children’s coloring contest. You can download coloring pages at www.utahsummergames.org. Completed pages should be mailed to Utah Summer Games, 351 West University Blvd., Cedar City, UT 84720. On the back of the page parents should legibly write the child’s name, age, birthdate, telephone number and mailing address. All entries will be displayed in the Sorenson PE Building during check-in and registration for the Utah Summer Games. For rules and regulations see website.

Crime Scene Academy


The College of Eastern Utah will be holding the annual Crime Scene Academy training workshop again this year. It will be held June 6 – 10. CEU Faculty member Steve McGibbon and recent CEU co-valedictorian and Criminal Justice student award recipient, Harley Watkins will be teaching at this year’s training. Miss Cleveland Pageant


There will be a meeting on June 3 for all Cleveland girls interested in participating in this year’s pageant. The meeting will be held at Cleveland Town Hall at 10 a.m. Mothers of the girls are encouraged to attend. Any questions concerning the pageant, call Jessie Ward at 653-2719.

State Fair Music Competition


Musicians are being sought for the annual Classical Music Competition to be held during August at the Utah State Fairpark. Classical music students from ages 8-23 are encouraged to participate. North Emery Reunion


The North Emery High Reunion will be held July 2 at Huntington Elementary School, 70 East 100 North. Registration and light refreshments will begin at 10 a.m. The monument dedication will be held at noon. Program at 3 p.m. followed by dinner. Emery Pioneer Day


There is still room for vendors at Emery Town’s annual Pioneer Day celebration, which will be held on July 23. Call the town office at 286-2714 to reserve your place to sell your crafts, plants, hot dogs and cotton candy. There will be no cost to vendors who wish to participate. Bring your family and friends and join us for a day filled with fun, parades, food and music. See you in Emery.

UP&L Summer BBQ

Veterans of Foreign Wars


A field service offier from ;the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at the Price Workforce Service Center on June 23 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is a free service to assist veterans, widows and dependents in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits.

Special Needs Swimming Program


The Emery County Recreation Special Service District will be conducting registration for the Special Needs Swimming Program on June 1 from 2-5 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation Office, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale, for children who are mentally or physically challenged. Floats, Floats, Floats


Come join in the fun of this years Emery County Fair Parade. We encourage every business, church group, city, school group, sports group, or family to be a part of the fair parade. The fair theme is New Ideas, New Dreams, New Beginnings. Floats will be judged and prizes will be given in several different categories. Vendors wanted for the Emery County Fair to be held Aug. 4-6. Large crowds expected. Security will be provided 24 hours a day, so daily load out is not required. Food Vendors Wanted


Vendors are wanted for the Emery County Fair to be held Aug. 4-6. Looking for exclusive food concession vendors. Each vendor may apply to have two exclusive entree food items for their booth. Project ChildSafe


Project ChildSafe, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation will be distributing free gun locks throughout Emery County. Members of the community may call their local law enforcement agency for information on how to obtain a free gun lock.

AA and NA Meetings


AA and NA meetings will be held at the Emery County Recreation Center, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. AA will be Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. NA meetings will be Thursday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Pioneer Museum Hours


New hours for the Pioneer Museum are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and Saturday noon-4 p.m. Share your pioneer heritage with family and friends.

Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Archives is now under the supervision of the Emery County Recorder and a message may be left at that office at 381-2414.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Eyeglasses for Lions Club
