The recent Emery County fair drew large crowds of people. Events began with the Desertview Pro Rodeo. Lacy McElprang was the winner of the colt from the Castle Valley Outdoors.
The free pork dinner in the Castle Dale park served 1,100 meals. The fair committee appreciates the Robinson Transport company for the use of their cook trailer to help prepare the food for the dinner. They served 600 meals in the first 38 minutes. The people coming through the line couldn’t keep up with the fast meal servers. Several youth volunteers from the community helped with the dinner.
The National Guard climbing wall spent two days at the fairpark and thousands of children went up and down the wall under the direction of National Guard volunteers. The inflatable toys drew thousands of jumpers on kids day and youth day. The free Highway 101 concert was attended by an estimated 3,200 people.
The fair goers seemed impressed with the quality and quantity of the food in the newly designed food court. The traditional Castle Valley lamb fry was well attended as was the Castle Valley Pageant.
The youth dance was well attended by the area teens and three computers were given away at the dance.
The Castle Dale fire department put on an intense fireworks show after the free concert.
Fair organizers attribute the success of the fair to the many volunteers who spent their time making sure the events went off without a hitch. The vendors and exhibits were among the finest around. The fair building boasted a host of exhibits within a fenced area which added a touch of class to the displays.

The sportsmen exhibits and predator calling contests were a hit with the sportsmen.
The giveaway of a kids ATV was a highlight for the children in the area. The anticipation ran high at the concert until the lucky winner, Stephanie Beebee was named. Jim Gilson from the Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife was instrumental in securing this ATV to give to a local child. A barrel of tickets with probably the names of 1,000 or more children was used to draw the winner.
The Desertview Federal Credit Union also gave away a trip to Nascar, a pork, and a trip to Mesquite plus golf. Desertview plans to giveaway prizes at next year’s fair also and encourages county residents to check the county newspaper for ticket entry forms beginning in July.
The fair parade boasted numerous floats and groups participating in the parade. Fair entries were judged and six winners were awarded prize money to be spent in Emery County businesses. Most original- Emery County Progress, Most beautiful-Castle Dale City, most humorous-Orangeville Youth City Council, most creative and Commissioners choice-Orangeville second ward primary, best use of theme-Castle Dale City youth council.
Fair organizers appreciate Castle Dale City for the preparation work and cleanup work throughout the fair.
They also appreciate the Emery County Sheriff’s Office for all the time they put into the event to keep all the activities safe.
“This fair could not have been possible without the volunteers who got the job done,” said Shannon Hiatt, county recreation director.
