Nellie and LaMond Smith

Ferron City has announced that the Grand Marshals for the 100th annual Peach Days Celebration and Parade on Sept. 9-10, will be Nellie and LaMond Smith.
The Smiths moved to Ferron in 1968 and have been involved in civic and church activities since they first came. When they had been in Ferron only one month LaMond was made water master of the North Ditch later adding the responsibilities of the South Ditch, he still holds those positions today 38 years later.
LaMond served as a city council member for eight years acting as chairman of the Peach Days Committee for those eight years. Both LaMond and Nellie have been involved with the South Eastern Utah Livestock Show for the past 23 years and LaMond has been the Chairman of the Polled and Horn Hereford Association for the past 16 years.
Nellie’s talents for artistry have made her an asset to the Peach Days Committee for more than 30 years. Nellie has hand painted the advertising signs for the horse arena each year. Businesses that have paid for advertising at Peach Days Celebration have been the recipient of Nellie’s skills. When her children were young she was very active in 4-H, little league, and was a judge at most riding and roping events in the Ferron area. Both Nellie and LaMond were avid horse aficionados in years past. Nellie is currently employed by Pat’s Sew and Stuff in Ferron, where she continues to share her talents with the customers.
The Smiths raised three children in the Ferron area, Linda, Randy and Becky. They are an asset to the town and are loved and appreciated by the citizens. Congratulations Nellie and LaMond on being chosen Grand Marshals.
